From 8:00am to 4:00pm on July 30 through August 1, the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office will host its annual CAMP HERO, a dynamic event designed to introduce elementary and middle-school aged children to the world of emergency services. Located at the Kosciusko County Fairgrounds, this three day program offers hands-on experiences where participants interact directly with various emergency response teams.

In Past years, participants engaged with professionals from the Indiana State Police’s Bomb Squad and K9 Units, The Warsaw Police’s Dive Team, Lutheran EMS’s Ground and Air Crews, and local fire departments. Activities included observing live bomb squad drills, witnessing K9 demonstrations, learning water rescue techniques, and participating in simulated emergency drills inside a fire safety trailer designed to teach important fire safety practices such as staying low to avoid smoke and identifying multiple escape routes in case of fire emergencies.

In addition to demonstrations, exciting events like a water battle took place, between children armed with super soakers and balloons versus firefighters equipped with fire hoses. These activities entertain and educate children about emergency response strategies and teamwork in a fun and engaging manner.

CAMP HERO aims to provide children with a deeper understanding of emergency procedures, teamwork, and the critical roles played by emergency responders in community safety.

While registration for this year’s CAMP HERO was filled in only 34 minutes (a new record for the camp), families are encouraged to watch for future sessions on the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office Facebook or by contacting their office directly. This camp offers a unique chance for children to learn, explore, and interact with real-life heroes in a supportive and secure setting.
