FULTON COUNTY – A powerful storm surged through Northern Indiana last night, causing extensive damage and leaving thousands without power. High winds, heavy rain, and intense lightning led to numerous power outages and structural damage throughout the Fulton County area.

The storm’s strong winds, with gusts close to 100 mph, knocked down trees and power lines, causing widespread power outages. Heavy rain led to localized flooding, making some roads impassable and creating hazardous conditions for drivers.

In response to the power outages, JJ Electric and Duke Energy quickly mobilized repair crews. JJ Electric, contracted by Duke Energy, sent out numerous teams to address the damage. These crews worked through the night to restore power to affected homes and businesses.

The severity of the storm prompted a response from the Fulton County Emergency Management Agency. Emergency responders, including firefighters, police, and medical personnel, were dispatched to assist with rescues and provide aid to those affected by the storm. Several injuries were reported, with fatalities reported in Cedar Lake, in Lake County.

Many homes and businesses suffered wind and water damage. Some buildings lost roofs, and windows were shattered by flying debris.

Power restoration efforts are ongoing, with utility companies working around the clock. Officials warn that some areas may remain without power for an extended period. Cleanup crews are also busy removing fallen trees and debris from roads and properties.

Residents are urged to stay cautious and follow any further weather advisories. Officials encourage people to check on neighbors, especially the elderly and vulnerable, who may need extra help during this challenging time.
